You talk for about 30 minutes with a few gentle prompts. Afterward, you each share one thing you learned.

The respect pledge

A good conversation does not need agreement. It needs a little trust. These are the rules every person agrees to before they are matched.

Break them, and you will not be matched again. Keep them, and you might be surprised how good it feels.

  1. I am here to understand, not to convince.
  2. I will assume good intent unless I am clearly shown otherwise.
  3. I will ask before I argue. "Help me understand why" beats "But that is wrong."
  4. No name-calling, no labels, no insults. Not of the person, and not of their side.
  5. I will let them finish. Pauses are fine. Interrupting is not.
  6. I will speak for myself, not for every person who votes like me.
  7. What is shared stays private. No recording, screenshots, or posting.
  8. I can end the chat kindly at any time, and so can they.

Talking with a stranger takes courage. Here is how we keep it safe.

  • Use your first name only. You never need to share your last name, employer, or where you live.
  • Conversations happen on a platform link we provide, not through your personal phone number or social accounts.
  • You can leave any conversation at any time, no explanation needed.
  • Report anyone who breaks the pledge. Reported members are paused while we review.
  • Never send money, personal documents, or private photos to anyone you meet here.
  • If you ever feel unsafe or threatened, end the conversation and contact local authorities.

Questions people ask

Is this run by a political party or campaign?

No. We are not affiliated with any party, candidate, or cause. We do not care how you vote. We care how you talk.

What if I am somewhere in the middle?

That is welcome. We will match you with someone whose views differ from yours on the topics you picked.

Is it going to turn into a debate?

We work hard to make sure it does not. Everyone takes the pledge, and you get gentle prompts like "What experience shaped your view on this?"

How long is a conversation?

About 30 minutes is a good start. If you both want to keep going, you can.

Does it cost anything?

Can I talk with the same person again?

If you both want to, yes. Some of the best understanding takes more than one talk.
